Community High School |
This is my second year at Community High School in Warren, Michigan. My students are anywhere from 16-20 years old, and they are at Community because they do not have enough credits to graduate from a traditional high school. We offer many different credit recovery opportunities, and adjust the curriculum to fit student needs as necessary.

Current Students and Classes |
I teach English 10 and Spanish 1. The majority of my students have already taken both of these classes (some more than once) and did not pass. My job is to readjust curriculum and materials in order to make it more accessible and easy to understand for my students. Many of my students come to our school with the attitude that they will never be able to receive their diploma. We encourage them to show up, stay positive, and be productive in order to graduate.

Clicking on these buttons will show you what some of my lesson plans look like! All my lesson plans are set up the same way; at the top, the standards, guiding principles or objective, and evidence of mastery are listed. These change as we move through the curriculum. At the bottom you can see a day to day plan for the week, along with daily learning objectives.

Buscalo is an activity I do with my Spanish classes. It allows students to practice whatever skill we are working on (in this case it is time) and check their work as we go. It encourages students to walk around, as they must find each different time in order to successfully complete the assignment.

I like to get my students involved in discussion as much as possible, and Socratic circles are a great way to do this. The following documents are what I use while reading 13 Reasons Why, and my classes participate in a Socratic circle for the first time when we read Clay's chapter.

This is a project I have done with my Spanish classes. Students are asked to choose jobs within their groups, and ultimately teach the class how to conjugate a new verb. This is a collaborative project where each student is responsible for a key part of the assignment. This project also includes modifications for smaller groups, or groups that contain students with different needs (i.e. EL students or students with IEPs).
